Did you know your eyes can get sunburned?
Too much UV light can actually burn the surface of your eye — it’s called photokeratitis. And over time, UV exposure can speed up cataracts, increase your risk of eye cancer, and even damage your retina.
Here’s how to protect your eyes this summer:
- Wear sunglasses with 100% UVA & UVB protection (not just dark lenses!)
- Add a wide-brimmed hat for extra coverage
- Stay out of direct sun between 10am–4pm
- Children’s eyes are more sensitive — protect them too!
Did you know? Snow, sand, and water can reflect up to 80% of UV rays back into your eyes — so even in the shade, there’s still a risk!
With another heatwave on the way, now’s the time to be sun-smart.
