Fresh Air, Friendship and Growing Confidence are at the Heart of our Walk, Talk and Tuck In Group

There is something about walking together that makes conversation come easily. It might be a chance to catch up with a familiar face, to meet someone new or simply to enjoy being outdoors in good company. Add a packed lunch and time to chat, and you have the ingredients for one of The Partially Sighted Society’s best-loved groups.

Everyone comes along for their own reasons. For some, it is the chance to get moving and spend time outside. For others, it is the company that matters most: a friendly welcome, a shared laugh and a date in the diary to look forward to.

Growing confidence together

Living with sight loss can make getting out feel more complicated. An unfamiliar route, or uncertainty about what support will be available, can take the pleasure out of an outing. Walking as a group, with sighted support from our team, takes some of that worry away and lets people build confidence at their own pace.

That confidence grows through small moments: trying a different route, starting a conversation, returning the following month to find that the people you met last time are becoming friends. Our Treasurer, Peter, joined the group on its latest outing and saw this for himself.

“What struck me was how much people enjoyed being together. There was plenty of conversation and laughter, and a real sense of people looking out for one another. Getting some fresh air and exercise is valuable in itself, but the friendships and confidence that can grow from a group like this are just as important. It was a pleasure to join everyone.”

There is time to stay and chat

The tuck in matters as much as the walk. Stopping to eat together gives everyone time to settle into a conversation, and nobody needs to rush off as soon as the walking is done. You do not need to arrive knowing anyone or have plenty to say. There is room for lively chat and for quiet company alike.

For us, that is what makes the group special. The walk gives us a reason to meet, and the people give us a reason to come back.

If you would like to join us, we would love to welcome you. Walk, Talk and Tuck In meets monthly on a Wednesday from noon until 2pm. Please bring a packed lunch, and contact the team for the next date, the meeting point and details of the route and support available.

Whether you come with a friend or take that first step on your own, someone will be ready to say hello.
