How We Help

Optom/Rehabilitation Services

There is life after sight loss; we’re here to help you discover it.

How We Help

At the Partially Sighted Society, we understand the anxiety and stress that comes with a diagnosis of a visual impairment, and we also understand that no person’s experience of sight loss is identical to anyone else’s. That's why we offer optometry and rehabilitation services tailored to the unique needs of the person.

Through our fully-equipped low-vision service, we offer a holistic and comprehensive approach to helping you manage your vision needs. We focus on how you can live well with your vision. To achieve this, we ensure we get a full understanding of your remaining vision and how sight loss has impacted your daily life. From there, we provide the exact support and care you need and deserve.

Staffed by an experienced low-vision optometrist and extremely knowledgeable rehabilitation officer, our sight centre in Doncaster is here to help you navigate sight loss. To book an appointment with our low-vision service, please call our friendly team on 01302 965195. It could be the first step to a brighter future.

Support Groups

Support Groups

Our support groups offer a safe space for individuals with visual impairments to connect with others who understand the unique challenges faced in daily life. With a wide range of interesting guest speakers attending each month, there’s always something new here.

Coffee Mornings

Our informal coffee mornings provides a relaxed space for members to socialise and build friendships. Enjoying a cup of tea or coffee and engaging in friendly conversation can be incredibly uplifting. It's a chance to share stories, laugh, and simply enjoy each other's company.

These gatherings combat social isolation and loneliness, which can be significant challenges for people with visual impairments. They also spark new connections, fostering a sense of belonging and promoting a positive outlook. The positive energy generated at these events ripples outwards, contributing to a more vibrant and inclusive local community.

Creative Wellbeing & Crafternoons

Our "crafternoons" combine the joy of creative expression with the benefits of social connection.  These sessions allow members to explore their artistic talents in a supportive environment, regardless of their previous experience.  Learning new skills, sharing tips, and working together on projects fosters a sense of accomplishment and camaraderie.

Engaging in creative activities can be incredibly therapeutic, reducing stress and anxiety while promoting mental well-being. It's also a fantastic way to maintain dexterity and fine motor skills, which can be impacted by sight loss.

The Partially Sighted Society's support groups, coffee mornings, and crafternoons offer much more than just activities. They provide a platform for connection, shared experiences, and a sense of belonging. This, in turn, strengthens the community spirit and fosters a more inclusive environment for everyone.  We invite you to join us and experience the positive impact these events can have on your life.

Bespoke School Books

At The Partially Sighted Society (PSS), we understand that every child's learning journey is unique and for students with visual impairments, accessing the correct educational tools can present unique challenges too. Our bespoke schoolbook printing service bridges this gap by helping you create customised learning materials tailored to every individual’s need, as no two visual impairments are ever the same.

What is your bespoke printing service?

Our printing service has two arms, educational and personal use. We print fully customisable bold-lined exercise books and other stationery for schoolchildren with visual impairments and students with visual processing disorders. You can order one of our free assessment packs from our School Shop to find out exactly which combinations of coloured paper, lines and line densities work best for your student.

We also create large print diaries and calendars for anyone who struggles to use conventional stationery.
