VI Pack
This is a FREE sample pack.
The Partially Sighted Society has developed a Visual Impairment Assessment Pack which enables the student to choose the appropriate stationery for their particular needs. These packs include:
- a) Writing Assessment Packs (A4 and school size) which can be used to determine the preferred stationery type for use in the classroom;
- b) Coloured Paper (A4 and School size) in the Writing Assessment Book which can be used to establish the visually impaired pupil’s preferred background colour.
- c) Catalogue
This pack has been designed as a tool to help you and your pupil together to determine the best combination of colour paper, line width, spacing and line density to suit their particular visual impairment.
The VI Pack is simple to use, show the visually impaired pupil the pages and ask them to write on the pages and let them tell you what works best for them. Every eye condition is unique to that specific person so you may find two pupils with visual impairments may ask for different colour pages or different line widths and/or spacing.
For many sight loss conditions lighting can make a big difference and a task light can be really helpful. If you can, try the pages with and without a task light, the light should be directed at an angle onto the page away from the head between the work and the face. There are lighting options at the back of this catalogue, both portable and static, with magnifiers attached and without.
The resources in the VI Pack will enable QTVI to accurately determine the preferred stationery type needed by the visually impaired pupil and by involving the pupil in the the decision process thereby ensuring the correct books are ordered for their particular visual impairment and therefore avoiding unnecessary or wasteful stationery expenditure.
Once a bespoke package has been established for the low-vision pupil, this information can then be relayed to the Society who will provide the specified combination.
